SERVICES OVERVIEW

Why Same Day Freight Is a Supply Chain Necessity

Every minute a production line sits idle, revenue disappears. Equipment failures, inventory shortfalls, and last-mile breakdowns don't follow a schedule — and neither should your freight.

Same day freight exists because standard shipping timelines can't absorb disruption. When a Tier 1 supplier misses a delivery window, when a critical spare part is stranded across the country, or when a contract penalty kicks in at midnight, shippers need a logistics partner who can mobilize immediately.

The reality of US freight infrastructure is that congested terminals, driver shortages, and rigid carrier schedules create bottlenecks that compound fast. Same day freight service eliminates those bottlenecks entirely by bypassing terminals and assigning a dedicated vehicle — loaded, rolling, and tracked in real time — within hours of your call.

EXPEDITED TRANSPORTATION Box Truck-1

Ground Expedite & Hot Shot Trucking

Ground transport is the backbone of same day freight shipping. We dispatch dedicated hot shot trucks, sprinter vans, straight trucks, and full tractor-trailers depending on your load size. Every vehicle runs direct — point-to-point freight delivery with no hub stops, no freight consolidation, and no handoffs. For regional moves and loads under 10,000 lbs, hot shot freight on flatbeds and specialized trailers gets your cargo there faster than shared freight service.

FULL TRUCKLOAD SERVICES FTL Icon

Dedicated Full Truckload

When you need same day FTL delivery, we match the right equipment to your freight. Dedicated trucks mean your cargo is the only cargo on board, eliminating the delays that come with multi-stop routes and terminal sorting.

AIR FREIGHT SERVICES delivery

Air Freight Integration

When distance or deadlines make ground transport impractical, we coordinate next flight out and air charter freight options to bridge the gap. Our team books commercial air cargo or on-demand charter flights and pairs them with ground pickup and last-mile delivery on both ends — giving you a seamless ground and air freight solution under one point of contact.

AOG Aircraft on ground

What AOG means

From a regional jet waiting on a starter at an outstation to a business jet grounded by a cracked windshield, AOG, short for aircraft on ground, means the aircraft cannot be dispatched. Usually a defect cannot be deferred under the minimum equipment list, or an existing MEL deferral has run out. Until the fault is fixed, the aircraft stays where it is.

The repair itself is often quick. The wait is usually for the part, which may sit in a stores room, at a supplier or at a repair shop hundreds of miles away.

SameDayAir.com moves AOG parts across North America 24/7. Our team gives you direct access to next flight out, hand carry, charter and ground expedite, backed by one expeditor who manages the part from pickup to delivery at the aircraft.

Cost of waiting Aircraft on ground

Why every hour on the ground costs

When an aircraft is AOG, the cost builds in several ways at once. An airline cancels or delays flights and rebooks passengers. A cargo operator misses a slot. Crews run into duty limits, so a late fix can mean a new crew. For business and private aviation, the owner's trip is lost and a replacement aircraft may be needed.

Published AOG cost figures vary widely, because they depend on the aircraft size, whether the cost is counted per hour or per event, and whether lost revenue is included. What they agree on is direction: every hour of waiting adds to the bill.

We support your AOG response with the fastest sensible option for the part. It's also why the first hour matters, so SameDayAir.com starts planning the moment you call.

How AOG parts move

AOG logistics providers usually rely on four ways to move a part, including commercial flights, couriers, charters and the road. This means the operator has an option whenever a part is ready, whatever its size or location.

Next flight out puts the part on the first suitable commercial flight, tendered at the cargo counter and recovered on arrival. Same day hand carry sends an on-board courier with a small part, so it never leaves their care. A dedicated charter flies a large component or reaches an airport with no airline service. Ground expedite drives the part by van or truck when the distance is short or flights are poor.

Our dispatch team is available around the clock, including weekends and holidays, so you can log an AOG at any hour. SameDayAir.com arranges each option to make sure the part reaches the aircraft.

Rule of thumb

Compare air and road

On shorter runs or late at night, a dedicated van often beats the next flight.

Choosing AOG parts

Choosing the fastest option

While a flight looks fastest on a map, the road often wins on shorter AOG runs. The decision comes down to a few facts: the size and weight of the part, the distance, the time of day, the next suitable flights and their cutoffs, and how long the MEL allows.

A small part going across the country usually flies with a hand carry courier or on the next flight out. A large component may need a charter. A part a few hours away, or one that comes off the shelf late at night when flights are done, often arrives sooner in a dedicated van. Dangerous goods can rule out some flights entirely.

For AOG parts within driving range, ground expedite provides a balance of speed and certainty that flight schedules can't match. This makes SameDayAir.com's side-by-side comparison the first step in every AOG response.

AOG Questions Answered

What does AOG mean?

AOG stands for aircraft on ground. It describes an aircraft that cannot be dispatched for flight because of a technical problem that must be fixed first. The term is used by airlines, cargo operators, business aviation and military operators, and it is also used as a priority level for parts orders and shipments. An AOG parts order signals that the part is needed immediately to return an aircraft to service, so suppliers and logistics providers treat it ahead of routine and critical orders. AOG events are among the most urgent situations in aviation maintenance and logistics.

What makes an aircraft AOG?

An aircraft becomes AOG when a defect means it is not airworthy or cannot be legally dispatched. Some faults can be deferred under the aircraft's minimum equipment list, allowing it to fly with the item inoperative for a set period under specific conditions. When a fault is not covered by the list, when the conditions cannot be met, or when an existing deferral has expired, the aircraft must stay on the ground until it is repaired. Damage from bird strikes, ground handling incidents and failed inspections can also ground an aircraft until repairs and checks are complete.

What is a minimum equipment list?

A minimum equipment list, or MEL, is an approved document that lists the equipment on an aircraft that may be inoperative for a limited time while the aircraft still flies, along with the conditions and procedures that apply. It is based on the manufacturer's master minimum equipment list and tailored to the operator's aircraft and operations, then approved by the aviation authority. The MEL allows operators to keep flying safely with certain non-critical items deferred. Items not on the list, or items whose conditions cannot be met, ground the aircraft until they are repaired.

What is an MEL deferral?

An MEL deferral is the formal postponement of a repair under the minimum equipment list. When an item on the list fails, maintenance can defer it, placard the inoperative equipment and follow any operating procedures, allowing the aircraft to keep flying. Each deferral has a repair interval, which sets how many days or flights the operator has to fix the item. When the interval runs out and the repair has not been made, the aircraft can no longer be dispatched and becomes AOG. That expiry date is often the real deadline when shipping the replacement part.

What is an on-board courier?

An on-board courier, often called an OBC or hand carry courier, is a person who travels with a shipment on a commercial flight and keeps it in their possession or under their control throughout the trip. The courier checks the item in as baggage or carries it on, collects it on arrival and delivers it in person. On-board couriers are widely used for small AOG parts, because they avoid cargo acceptance and handling times and keep the part with one person. The part must meet airline rules for passenger baggage, including size, weight and dangerous goods restrictions.

What is next flight out?

Next flight out is a service that puts a shipment on the first suitable commercial flight to its destination. A driver collects the part and tenders it at the airline's cargo counter before the cutoff, and another driver recovers it at the arrival airport and delivers it. For AOG parts, next flight out suits boxed parts on routes with frequent flights. Timing depends on cutoff times, flight schedules and how quickly the airline releases the shipment on arrival. When flights are infrequent or the part is too large for passenger aircraft holds, a charter or hand carry may be faster.

What is a serviceable tag?

A serviceable tag is the document that certifies an aircraft part is airworthy and approved for installation. It records details such as the part number, serial number, the work performed and who approved the part's return to service. Without the correct documentation, maintenance cannot install the part, however quickly it arrives. Serviceable tags must travel with the part and should be checked against it at pickup and delivery. In the United States, the FAA's Authorized Release Certificate is a common form, and other authorities issue their own equivalents.

What is FAA Form 8130-3?

FAA Form 8130-3, the Authorized Release Certificate, is a document used in the United States to identify an aircraft part and certify its airworthiness status. It can be issued for new parts by approved production organizations and for repaired or overhauled parts by certificated repair stations. The form lists the part number, serial number, description and the work performed, and it is signed by an authorized person. Mechanics rely on it to confirm a part is eligible for installation. For AOG shipments, the 8130-3 or an equivalent release from another authority must travel with the part.

What are dangerous goods in aircraft parts?

Some aircraft parts are classified as dangerous goods for transport because they contain substances or energy that could pose a risk in flight. Examples include batteries, chemical oxygen generators, fire extinguisher bottles, parts containing fuel, hydraulic fluid or oil residues, and certain magnetized or pressurized items. These parts can often still be shipped, but they must be properly classified, packed, marked and declared under air transport rules. Some are allowed only on cargo aircraft or must move by road. Declaring dangerous goods when the AOG request is logged prevents a refused shipment at the airport.

What is the difference between AOG and critical priority?

Aviation parts orders are often ranked by priority. AOG is the highest level, meaning the aircraft is grounded and cannot fly until the part arrives, so it is handled immediately at any hour. Critical priority, sometimes called work stoppage or imminent AOG, means the part is needed urgently to prevent an aircraft from becoming grounded soon or to finish a maintenance check on schedule. Routine priority covers planned stock replenishment. The priority affects how quickly suppliers ship and which transport option makes sense, with AOG usually justifying hand carry, next flight out or a charter.
